Rachel Brown of Rachel Brown Interiors on Building a Legacy, Leading with Purpose, and Designing for Impact

From Generational Grit to Award-Winning Homes

Rachel Brown’s story begins with a foundation laid by family. Her parents launched a homebuilding business with just five hundred dollars and a plan. She grew up working with her father on construction sites, and after studying psychology at Auburn University, she planned to attend interior design school in Atlanta. But her father asked her to return home and join the business. At just twenty-six, after his unexpected passing, she stepped into leadership and took over as builder and entrepreneur.

Over two decades later, Rachel continues to blend construction and creativity through Rachel Brown Interiors, based in Huntsville and active in markets including Atlanta, Phoenix, and Nashville. What began as a building company has evolved into a full-service design and build studio. Two years ago, she launched the design division, and one of the first projects earned a Silver Award from the National Association of Homebuilders. “That was really the moment where I felt like, wow, people are really noticing what we’re doing,” she said.

A Vision Fueled by Passion

Rachel is deeply intentional about how she approaches work. She starts not with profit goals but with purpose. “I want to be inspirational. I do not want to lay on my deathbed at eighty years old with regrets about wasting what God has given me,” she said. Her perspective is shaped by personal experiences, including surviving melanoma and managing fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

With support from her team and a business coach, she continues to lead multiple areas of the business, from design and construction to coaching and consulting. Through all of it, she is motivated by the desire to create meaningful impact.

Designing with Eclectic Energy

Rachel describes herself as eclectic at heart and resists narrowing her work to a single style. “We flux across styles, and that is what we are good at,” she said. Her projects range from soft modern builds in Atlanta to modern Tudors in Huntsville and homes in Phoenix that blend minimalist and indoor-outdoor influences.

One of her current projects is an eight-million-dollar speculative build in Atlanta. It includes a barbershop, golf simulator, and theater. “This is going to be for someone that wants entertainment,” she explained. “We wanted to have all the bells and whistles in this one.” The studio’s national reach fuels her creativity and brings new ideas into every city they work in.

Photography, Branding, and Creative Direction

Rachel’s creativity extends beyond design into photography and branding. One of her most talked-about projects was a photo shoot where she and her team wore gowns on a construction site. “I am a builder with grit and determination, but I am also the creative and the beauty,” she explained. The contrast was intentional, meant to represent the balance she brings to her work. “I wanted people to understand we are not just doing lipstick on a pig. We are creating it all.”

Leadership, Teamwork, and Legacy

Rachel is passionate about mentoring and growing talent, especially the women on her team. “We are a team of women, and I am proud of that,” she said. “I do not want to be the girl boss just to be the girl boss. But I want to lead with authenticity.”

Her openness about the challenges of running a business while navigating health issues has built a strong sense of trust within her studio. “It is my name on the door, but I cannot do all of this without them,” she said.

Looking Forward

As Rachel Brown Interiors continues to evolve, Rachel remains focused on purposeful growth across design, building, and leadership. She is committed to nurturing her team, expanding into new markets, and creating meaningful experiences for clients through every stage of the process. Whether mentoring young talent, speaking at events, or developing the next signature home, Rachel leads with clarity, transparency, and a deep sense of drive.
