Background
Sergio Hazou is the cofounder of Luka Design & Build, a full service construction and design firm based in Northern Virginia. Originally from Bolivia, Sergio’s career spans multiple countries, industries, and chapters of reinvention. He earned a degree in business administration in Spain and went on to own and operate several nightclubs in Bolivia, where he first collaborated on design and construction projects. That experience sparked a passion for the built environment and planted the seed for what would eventually become his calling.
After relocating to the United States, Sergio wasted no time rebuilding from the ground up. He began working in the trades, first as a painter and framer, then as a project manager. Each role taught him a new layer of the construction process and deepened his understanding of what it takes to deliver a successful project. With a sharp eye for execution and a drive to lead his own team, Sergio launched his own company and began building something lasting.
Approach
At Luka Design & Build, Sergio leads construction operations and oversees every project with precision and care. He brings a rare blend of hands on experience, business sense, and people skills to the table. He is especially proud of the team he has built, many of whom have worked with him for years. Sergio believes in loyalty, consistency, and treating every subcontractor and crew member like a trusted partner. Those relationships are the backbone of the business.
For Sergio, leadership is not just about efficiency or budgets. It is about building trust through action, delivering on promises, and doing things the right way even when it takes more time.
Beyond Design
Luka Design & Build was named after Sergio’s two daughters, a reflection of how central family is to everything he does. His love for his daughters and his desire to build a meaningful legacy for them are at the heart of his company’s mission.
When he is not on the job site or meeting with clients, Sergio finds peace on the golf course. Golf gives him space to reset and reflect, and he approaches the game with the same passion that guides his work in construction.
