Background
Cecilia Hazou is the cofounder and creative lead at Luka Design & Build, where she brings a refined sense of style, emotional insight, and deep intuition to every project. Born and raised in Bolivia, Cecilia studied interior design in Argentina before moving to the United States with her husband Sergio to pursue a new chapter together.
Arriving in a new country with no network and no roadmap, Cecilia helped build Luka Design & Build from the ground up. She started by photographing and designing their own projects, managing day to day operations, and gradually developing the systems and creative direction that define the business today. She takes pride in every step it took to get here and holds deep appreciation for how far the firm has come.
Approach
Cecilia’s design process begins with listening. She leads with empathy and always takes time to understand how a client will live in their space. Rather than subscribing to a single aesthetic, she draws inspiration from multiple sources and styles, creating layered and personal interiors that reflect each client’s values, habits, and personality.
She believes design is not just about making a home beautiful but about creating a sense of belonging. Whether she is working on a modern build or a transitional renovation, Cecilia balances function with feeling in every room she touches.
Beyond Design
Cecilia has fallen in love with the Virginia area and the diversity of homes and families she has encountered. From Vienna to McLean, she sees each neighborhood as a source of creative energy and connection. Her work reflects a growing appreciation for how local architecture, community, and environment can influence interior design.
As a business owner, Cecilia takes pride in what she and Sergio have created together. She knows the challenges of starting from nothing and is proud to now be running a company that is respected, trusted, and growing through word of mouth and repeat clients.
She also believes in collaboration and community. In recent years, she has made it a point to build relationships with other designers and creatives in the area, a decision that has opened up new opportunities and helped her continue to evolve as a designer and entrepreneur.
